It than memorization and repetition are not an integral part of the ABA therapy, but they are far from the aspects alone. To really understand how the ABA, it is important to first understand how autism. The brain of a person with autism does not work the same way as in others. While most people can watch someone brush their teeth and understand what is happening, the mind of an autistic person does not. Instead, they must learn tasks as the first step at a time, with the model broken down into the most basic elements possible.
ABA therapy teaches each step in a model, process, or concept through repetition and guidance. A child is taught to step over and over, using the prompts and positive reinforcement until they can repeat or perform step without any orientation. While this does not teach them to memorize the essential behaviors and responses, it is also much more. One of the most remarkable things about ABA therapy is that it may help rewire the brain. In other words, the repetition helps create new pathways in the brain that allow children to learn to literally learn.
